Josh McDaniels on his future: ‘No idea’

Josh McDaniels rule

Josh McDaniels is among the most coveted names in the NFL coaching carousel and spent the New England Patriots’ bye week meeting with a few franchises. But right now, he’s only thinking about the playoffs.

According to Ryan Hannable of WEEI, the offensive coordinator said he’s unsure about where he stands following the interviews.

“No idea, really. I did what was allowed and kind of re-focused on moving into this week and focusing on Tennessee. I have no other information.”

It’s a classic coach-speak answer about only thinking about the upcoming game. Considering what’s at stake this weekend, though, it’s understandable.

The Patriots will take on the Tennessee Titans, who advanced to the Divisional Round after putting together a stunning 18-point comeback on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs. New England is a 13.5-point favorite for the game, per OddsShark.

Once the playoffs are over, though, McDaniels will likely be offered a head-coaching position elsewhere. He has interviewed with the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears and New York Giants.

Though it’s not guaranteed, McDaniels seems likely to leave the Patriots. Should the coordinator leave, he’ll attempt to improve on a career 11-17 record as a head coach.
