Crazy stat shows why Patriots should be scared of Blake Bortles

Blake Bortles NFL Week 3

Don’t look now, but Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles is well on his way toward flipping the script on the narrative surrounding his NFL career.

A player who has, for most of his career, been overwhelmingly underwhelming considering he was the No. 3 overall pick in 2014, Bortles is suddenly showing he’s got ice water in his veins. Just look at what he did last weekend in crunch time against the Pittsburgh Steelers as Exhibit A in this argument.

Here’s something else that might shock you, from ESPN Stats & Info.

That’s pretty darn impressive.

Statistically speaking, what Bortles has done in two playoff games this year doesn’t wow you — less than 60 percent completion rate with 301 total passing yards and just two touchdowns. However, he’s also played turnover-free ball and the Jaguars are just one game away from Super Bowl LII.

The New England Patriots are the best in the business at taking away the strengths of opposing teams. They’ll have a plan to keep Leonard Fournette from busting loose, which means Bortles will likely have to beat them with his arm. Based on what happened last weekend, however, we’re not going to say he can’t do the job.
