Chargers GM Tom Telesco willing to have team on ‘Hard Knocks’

The Los Angeles Chargers are one of six teams that would be obligated to be on “Hard Knocks” if HBO came calling (per Dan Hanzus, NFL.com). Via Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, general manager Tom Telesco noted that he’d be willing to do it, though did express hesitancy.

Telesco is more willing than San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch.

There’s definitely an appeal to a team like the Chargers. Of the obligated teams, they were by far the best in 2017, missing the playoffs only via a tiebreaker. There’s definitely an appeal to that, much like there was with the Houston Texans in 2015’s “Hard Knocks.”

Additionally, while most of this was covered in the 2016 season with the Los Angeles Rams, there’s a definite appeal about the NFL’s return to Los Angeles being fairly new.

While the season tends to focus mostly on the players fighting for roster spots and the people in charge of making those decisions, the Chargers would offer a potentially interesting variable. Los Angeles struggled to attract fans (especially home fans) throughout the 2017 season. It would be interesting to see some focus go on the team trying to be more appealing.

“Hard Knocks” usually does a great job and there’s no reason to think the same wouldn’t happen with the Chargers. There’s plenty to be interested in.
