Adam Jones: Marvin Lewis ‘one of the best coaches’ ever in NFL

Texans rumors: Marvin Lewis, head coach

For varying reasons, the news that the Cincinnati Bengals are bringing Marvin Lewis back as head coach wasn’t exactly met with a lot of positivity. But in Adam Jones, Lewis has at least one fan on the team.

“I’m so excited; the man saved my life,” Jones said, per TMZ Sports. “He’s one of the best coaches that’s ever been in the game. It ain’t his fault that we’ve had two bad seasons.”

When asked how Lewis saved Jones’ life, Pacman responded, “How didn’t he?”

We’re certainly not going to deny that Lewis has made a big impact on Jones’ life. Jones was headed down a very bad path early in his career. That’s somewhat been stabilized under Lewis, though his off-field issues have persisted. As such, we understand that Jones would be loyal to Lewis and happy that he’ll be back in 2018.

But one of the best coaches of all time? Lewis’ record 125-112-3 is certainly decent. But it’s a long way from the best coaches in NFL history. Of course, the real blemish on Lewis’ record is that he’s 0-7 in the playoffs, and four of those losses came at home.

Certainly, the players wield responsibility for the bad seasons in 2016 and 2017. But the coach gets no blame for not putting those players in the right spots to succeed?

Being happy he’s back is one thing. But Jones’ explanation doesn’t quite add up.
