Yankees shade Red Sox after acquiring Giancarlo Stanton

Yankees

The New York Yankees officially announced the acquisition of reigning NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins Monday morning. A press conference is slated for Orlando later in the afternoon.

And the team didn’t waste any time absolutely trolling the division-rival Boston Red Sox following the announcement that the trade was official.

Leave it to the Yankees to point out that the first time this happened was when New York acquired Babe Ruth from Boston in exchange for $125,000 in cash. It’s considered one of the most infamous trades in the history of sports.

In case you’re out of the loop for some reason, Stanton led baseball with 59 homers last season. Meanwhile, led by reigning AL Rookie of the Year Aaron Judge, the Yankees posted a MLB-best 241 homers.

Let’s just hope for the sake of fans in Boston that history doesn’t repeat itself. Back in 1919, Ruth joined a lineup that would ultimately end up including Lou Gehrig. The team would go on to win eight World Series titles over the next two decades.

For Boston, the Sox had won four titles in the eight seasons prior to trading Ruth. It wouldn’t win another title until 2004.
