Steve Kerr on Detroit hotel: It’s a ‘soul-sucking experience’

Steve Kerr Golden State Warriors Game 2 2017 NBA Finals

As his Golden State Warriors prepare to take on the Detroit Pistons in the final game of a six-game road trip Friday night, head coach Steve Kerr is ready to head home.

It’s not because the cities on this trip aren’t great. It’s not that Kerr doesn’t necessarily like Detroit. It’s not even about wanting to sleep in his own bed.

No. Kerr wants to leave Detroit as soon as possible, primarily because the hotel his team is staying at is a “soul-sucking experience.”

“Well I am at the MGM Casino Hotel in downtown Detroit and you want to talk about a soul-sucking experience, man, we’ve got to get home,” Kerr said, via KNBR. “I don’t need a casino right now in Detroit.”

Notice how Kerr talks about himself, not his players, when it comes to the casino? We’re on to your little game, Mr. basketball coach.

But Kerr didn’t stop the complaining there.

“It’s a new road trip this year because of the new venue downtown we used to play out in Auburn Hills and you would stay in Birmingham, it was this quaint little town and now, no,” Kerr said. “The casino in downtown Detroit.”

What could go wrong here? The Warriors have extra time on their hands prior to Friday night’s game as they look to close out an undefeated road trip.

If the team does come out flat against the Pistons, we now know why. Kerr let the cat out of the bag in a big way. Let’s just hope it doesn’t suck the soul right out of him. That wouldn’t be good for anyone involved.
