Report: UCF targeting Kevin Sumlin to replace Scott Frost

Kevin Sumlin Texas A&M

One day after Scott Frost was announced as the next head football coach at Nebraska, UCF is reportedly setting its sights on Kevin Sumlin to replace him.

Sumlin was recently dismissed at Texas A&M ahead of the Aggies’ decision to bring in Jimbo Fisher on a 10-year contract worth $75 million guaranteed. During his tenure at College Station, Sumlin led the Aggies to a 51-26 record and went 25-23 against the SEC. His teams qualified for a bowl in each of his six seasons and went 3-2 the past five postseasons.

It’s worth pointing out that the Aggies went the wrong way the longer Sumlin remained entrenched. After winning 11 games his first year, they never got back to double digits in the win column, and the 2017 campaign was his worst in six seasons.

The coach that ultimately ends up following Frost at UCF will have tremendous talent at their fingertips from the get go. The Knights finished the season undefeated with the highest-scoring offense in the nation. It’s going to be fascinating to see what happens in the coming weeks.
