Report: Shea Patterson granted permission to seek transfer from Ole Miss, Michigan a possibility

Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson

Ole Miss quarterback Shea Patterson could be on his way out after the school reportedly granted him permission to seek a transfer, per David Johnson of 247Sports.

“Multiple well-placed sources have confirmed to the Ole Miss Spirit today that quarterback Shea Patterson has been granted permission by Ole Miss to talk to other programs about potentially transferring. Patterson and Ole Miss executed what is termed a “permission to contact” form on Friday, according to those sources.”

Patterson was a 5-star recruit out of Shreveport, La. in 2016 and was the top quarterback of the recruiting class, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

As a sophomore, he had an up-and-down season (more up than down) for the Rebels, completing 63.8 percent of his passes for 2,259 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Then, in the game against LSU, he suffered a season-ending knee injury and was ultimately replaced by junior Jordan Ta’amu.

According to the report by Johnson, Michigan could very well be a landing spot for Patterson. And that makes a ton of sense, both for the quarterback and Jim Harbaugh’s program. The biggest thing missing for Michigan this past year was competent quarterback play, and Patterson would likely love a fresh start given the recent sanctions against Ole Miss.
