Recently fired former Giants GM Jerry Reese releases statement

Jerry Reese

When head coach Ben McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese were fired by the New York Giants Monday, it seemed to be a culmination of what has been a disastrous season for the New Jersey based team.

It’s pretty obvious at this point that McAdoo was fired primarily due to his handling of the entire Eli Manning situation. For Reese, his departure was seen as more of a long-term issue. He survived the Giants parting ways with former head coach Tom Coughlin following the 2015 season and simply wasn’t going to survive this most-recent housecleaning.

In releasing a statement following his firing, Reese showed the professionalism that defined a tenure in New York that included two Super Bowl titles.

As NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo notes, that took a lot of class. It’s also pretty obvious that Reese doesn’t harbor any ill-will following his firing. This usually isn’t the case when it comes to the professional sports world.

Reese had been with the Giants since his days as a scout in 1994. He then took over the player personnel department in 2004 — eventually becoming the Giants’ general manager back in 2007.
