Rams P Johnny Hekker honored for helping Los Angeles wildfires victims

Johnny Hekker

Los Angeles Rams punter Johhny Hekker was named the NFLPA Community MVP for Week 14. He earned this honor for coordinating efforts to help those impacted by the wildfires that have stormed their way through Southern California.

“The Los Angeles wildfires were happening in my back yard, so taking action was a simple way to extend a helping hand to my neighbors in need,” Hekker said, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.”

According to the report, Hekker and his wife donated clothes and diapers to a Ventura County shelter. Hekker also organized other relief efforts with both fans and teammates to further provide assistance.

The Los Angeles wildfires have affected thousands of families who had to evacuate, or even worse, have completely lost their homes. Hekker stepping up to help his local community speaks volumes for his character.

It is always great to see players push football aside and put forth their best efforts to help those who find themselves in dire need. As the honoree for the NFLPA’s Community MVP of the week, Hekker will receive $10,000 to give to his choice of charity, per PFT.
