Le’Veon Bell on playing Patriots: Opportunity is here

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a chance to secure a huge AFC win against the New England Patriots, but Le’Veon Bell has another reason for motivation.

Bell exited last season’s AFC Championship early due to a groin injury. He could earn a little redemption Sunday afternoon.

“I just felt like I missed a opportunity to get to a Super Bowl,” he said, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. “When this year came around, we saw the schedules and everything, I knew had another opportunity if I was being healthy and playing the Pats again. It’s good. The opportunity is here.”

The Steelers enter the contest with an 11-2 record, while the Patriots dropped to 10-3 following a surprising Monday night loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Pittsburgh cannot officially secure home-field advantage in Week 15 unless the Jacksonville Jaguars lose to the Houston Texans. Nevertheless, the Steelers would hold a critical head-to-head tiebreaker over New England and lock up a first-round bye.

They know how important this result is, especially since the showdown will be played at home. In uncharacteristic fashion, head coach Mike Tomlin actually pumped up the clash rather than saying it’s just another game.

A Pittsburgh loss, however, would put the Patriots on the inside track to earning home field for the postseason. And the last two times that happened, Tom Brady and Co. hoisted the Lombardi Trophy.

Bell and the Steelers don’t want to waste this opportunity.
