The NBA’s “city edition” uniforms will debut in the 2018 calendar year, and Kobe Bryant helped design the version the Los Angeles Lakers will wear.

After all, it’s a tribute to the Black Mamba anyway.

In an interview with ESPN’s Zach Lowe, Bryant said the idea of a snake-themed uniform came to him immediately when Nike collaborators told him the Lakers wanted the jersey designed in his honor.

“It was fun to help create it. It means something right when you look it. And if you’re a Lakers fan, you know what it means.”

The uniform features several team-specific attributes in addition to highlighting Bryant.

According to Lowe, the shorts include eight stars on both legs, which represent the 16 championships Los Angeles has won. Gold Nos. 8 and 24 — the two numbers Kobe wore with the Lakers — are inside the flap of the bottom of the shorts.

Plus, among other neat parts, the belt buckle features a well-designed “LA” that incorporates Bryant’s 24 into the abbreviation.

The result was a Kobe-inspired, Kobe-approved uniform that Lakers players and fans should love to wear.
