Embattled Texans head coach Bill O’Brien: ‘I’m not a quitter’

The writing seems to be on the wall when it comes to Bill O’Brien’s future as the Houston Texans’ head coach.

Sure multiple players have thrown their support behind O’Brien during what has been a taxing season for both the head coach and his team. But following Sunday’s humiliating 45-7 loss to Jacksonville, Houston finds itself at 4-10 on the season and has lost seven of its past eight games.

This has led to speculation that O’Brien might be fired once his fourth season as the Texans’ head coach comes to a conclusion over the next couple weeks.

“With Texans coach Bill O’Brien about to enter the final season of his contract, and the Texans struggling down the stretch, numerous sources close to he and general manager Rick Smith believe a split is imminent,” CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora reported Sunday morning.

If that were to happen, apparently the Texans and general manager Rick Smith would have to fire O’Brien. Here’s what the head coach had to say about his situation in Houston. It’s readily apparent he isn’t going to up and quit.

O’Brien a former offensive coordinator with New England and head coach at Penn State, led Houston to the AFC South title in each of the past two seasons prior to the team falling flat in 2017. Though, it must be noted that both division titles came with the Texans winning nine games.

Based on the recent reporting, it seems to be a foregone conclusion that O’Brien will be fired. Just don’t look for him to pull a Marvin Lewis and quit before that happens.
