Browns GM: Anything but AFC North title in 2018 unacceptable

John Dorsey Browns

John Dorsey is confident. The new Cleveland Browns general manager has high aspirations for the team. He’s also reaching.

Dorsey, who suggested the team’s previous personnel leaders didn’t bring in enough good players, said Cleveland’s main objective for the 2018 is winning the division. Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com shared what Dorsey said on WKNR 850.

“I’m the eternal optimistic. I believe we have to be competitive in the AFC North and my total objective going into the ’18 season is to win the AFC North. Anything else to me is unacceptable.”

Confidence is important, and Browns fans must be tired of hearing “this is going to take time” over and over and over again.

Is that the truth? Yes. However, it’s been 15 years since Cleveland reached the playoffs. Any change in the front office’s mentality is likely welcomed.

You’re probably not going to find many NFL viewers picking the Browns to steal the AFC North in 2018. The Pittsburgh Steelers remain one of the league’s best teams, the Baltimore Ravens are typically competitive and the Cincinnati Bengals were a playoff regular until this year.

Granted, the Browns have a decent foundation with the NFL’s most efficient run defense and a couple of respectable offensive pieces. Despite the dig at the Sashi Brown-led personnel department, there is talent on this Cleveland roster.

Dorsey’s chief task is finding a franchise quarterback. Once that happens, building depth is a necessity. Then, we can talk about the Browns actually competing in the AFC North.

But even if his level of optimism for 2018 is a bit much, we like his spirit.
