Report: Chip Kelly expected to only consider UCLA, Florida

Former Oregon coach Chip Kelly has been connected to several college football openings, but he’s expected to only consider UCLA and Florida.

According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, the anticipation is that Kelly will reach a decision in the coming days.

Despite the unceremonious end to his NFL tenure, Kelly is an experienced coach with a system that unquestionably works at the college level. He already knows how to recruit the West Coast, so UCLA is a fit. Plus, there’s plenty of speed in South Florida for his up-tempo offense if he chooses the Gators.

Whichever school lands Kelly will — and should — be thrilled.

The connection with Florida emerged after the program parted ways with Jim McElwain, and Kelly visited with UCLA reps soon after the school fired Jim Mora on his birthday.

Kelly posted a 46-7 record in a four-year stint with Oregon, guiding the Ducks to four BCS games. They lost in the 2010 national championship, appeared in two Rose Bowls and won the Fiesta Bowl in the final season before Kelly pursued the NFL.
