Report: Broncos tried to trade Demaryius Thomas, could move on after season

Demaryius Thomas

The Denver Broncos have featured one of the least impressive offenses in the NFL, and the team already fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy because of it. Could receiver Demaryius Thomas be next up on the chopping block? According to one report, the Broncos tried to trade him and might move on after the season.

Benjamin Allbright reports Denver believes Thomas lost strength when he switched to a vegan diet and hasn’t been the same player since.

Thomas has caught 53 passes for 633 yards and three touchdowns this year. Those aren’t awful numbers, per se, but considering he caught 402 passes for 5,787 yards and 41 touchdowns between 2012-15 with Peyton Manning as his quarterback they’re quite low by comparison.

Throw in the fact that Thomas is set to count $12 million against the cap next season and it’s not surprising he’s being looked at as a potential expendable piece.

It’s also not very surprising that Denver might be looking to move on based on comments head coach Vance Joseph made recently about the receiver being inconsistent.

Of course, the counter to all this is that, if Denver had a competent quarterback, perhaps Thomas would be making just as many big plays as he once did. Obviously, the Broncos don’t have that guy on the roster right now, so the team is in an awkward spot.
