Report: Bears ax Connor Barth after missing game-tying FG against Lions

Credit: Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears were in excellent position to tie Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, but kicker Connor Barth missed a 46-yard attempt

with seconds left on the clock. Already on the hot seat, coming into the game having made 10-of-15 attempts in 2017, Barth has reportedly been cut and replaced by Cairos Santos, per Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Santos is inking a one-year deal, per Biggs. He had been unable to play in recent weeks due to a groin injury. Now that he’s healed, and as Barth continued to struggle, it was an easy decision to make the change.

Previously with the Kansas City Chiefs, Santos was replaced by rookie Harrison Butker when he was injured. He’s been a reliable kicker in the past (80-of-105 for his career). Last year he missed just four of his 35 attempts, and he hadn’t missed yet this year for Kansas City before being injured.
