Redskins could have made Kirk Cousins NFL’s richest, and he wouldn’t have signed

Contract talks between quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Washington Redskins have officially been shelved until the end of the 2017 season. Though, that has not stopped Cousins’ father, Don, from shedding a bit of light into last summer’s negotiations.

Cousins reportedly would not have signed any contract with the Redskins — even one making him the NFL’s highest-paid player.

This news is quite jaw-dropping. But it presumably explains why Cousins never agreed to terms with Washington. Instead, Cousins is earning franchise tag tender for his second year in a row.

This offseason, Cousins will become a free agent. If he does not wish to sign a long-term deal with Washington, Cousins’ phone will be ringing off the hook with other interested teams.

Cousins currently ranks second in passing yards (3,038) behind New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. He also sports a stellar 101.1 quarterback rating.
