Marvin Lewis calls out John Ross for effort

Cincinnati Bengals receiver John Ross hasn’t logged many snaps in 2017, and Marvin Lewis isn’t happy the rookie wasted one opportunity in Week 10.

Ross ran a vertical route but slowed up when he thought Andy Dalton wasn’t throwing him the ball. Instead, the pass landed about five yards in front of Ross, who probably could’ve caught it.

“He let his teammates down,” said Lewis, per Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “He let me down. He let Andy down.”

According to Dehner, Ross took responsibility for the mistake.

“It’s like you being a kid and you go the whole year being good and you mess up that one time and now you get nothing for Christmas.”

Ross, the ninth overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft, has also battled injury this year, limiting him to just a few appearances.

To make matters worse, Ross has one lost fumble on one career touch. The ugly truth is the Washington product hasn’t done anything positive on the stat sheet, and the tape didn’t like him on that route against the Tennessee Titans, either.

Impressing in the NFL is hard work.

Ross’ debut season hasn’t gone as anyone hoped or expected. He needs to make the most of every snap, because Lewis seems content to use other receivers until Ross is perfect in limited opportunities.
