Is Lane Kiffin a serious candidate to become the University of Tennessee’s new football coach? If he is, former Volunteer quarterback Erik Ainge isn’t interested.
Ainge, who hosts a radio show in Tennessee, shared a DM conversation that he had with Kiffin on Twitter.
I don’t want him. He doesn’t want to be back here either. Kiffin is not the answer. I promise. See our convo. No. Thanks. Lane. pic.twitter.com/HLjYDQ13s4

Even if Kiffin is not interested, the Florida Atlantic coach has made himself relevant in this discussion. He first joked about being a member of Jon Gruden’s staff at Tennessee, and later joked about the Volunteers’ situation after the original plan to hire Greg Schiano went south due to protests.
Kiffin is not a popular man in Tennessee. He was the Volunteers’ coach for one year (2009), after which he left to go to USC. Ainge, meanwhile, was a four-year starter at Tennessee for Kiffin’s predecessor, Phillip Fulmer.
