We get it. Not everyone loves baseball. That’s a given.

But when the Astros won the World Series this week, it was bigger than sports. They brought something special to a huge group of people who recently suffered through one of the worst hurricanes this nation has ever experienced.

That’s why a Houston-based businessman wasn’t upset about paying out more than $10 million to people who bought from him before the World Series.

Astros fans in Houston who are still reeling from the devastation that Hurricane Harvey got to forget about their troubles for a few hours most nights this fall while the Astros won the first championship in franchise history. Much like the New Orleans Saints winning the Super Bowl after the 2009 season, lifting up fans around the Bayou after Katrina, this was a huge event for the city of Houston.

So while that particular professor is “reflecting on our nation’s values,” we’ll be celebrating the fact that we have these kind of values to begin with.
