Heat’s Hassan Whiteside sidelined with knee injury

The Miami Heat will be without star center Hassan Whiteside for at least the next one to two weeks after he sat out Wednesday’s game with a bone bruise to the knee. The report comes directly from the Heat themselves.

Miami might want us to believe that this is a new injury, but it isn’t. According to Whiteside himself, the center suffered the bone bruise against Orlando on opening night.

“It’s really bothering me, man. We’re going to figure it out. We’re going to figure it out when we get back to Miami and figure out what’s wrong,” Whiteside said Thursday, via the Sun Sentinel. “It has really been bothering me throughout the season. It had been bothering me since Orlando.”

Whiteside went on to miss the next five games. But it’s readily apparent that this has lingered throughout the first quarter of the season.

Based on the center’s own comments, this 1-2 week timeline might be wishful thinking on Miami’s part. The 28-year-old big man is averaging 14.9 points and 12.7 boards on the season.
