Grizzlies GM: We have no intention to trade Marc Gasol

Prior to head coach David Fizdale being fired earlier in the week, there were rumors that Marc Gasol wanted the Memphis Grizzlies to trade him.

Gasol’s primary issue was the recently fired head coach, as the two reportedly had barely been on speaking terms since last season.

It now looks like the Grizzlies and general manager Chris Wallace are not looking to move their All-Star big man.

“We have no intention to trade Marc (Gasol). We never seriously considered that at all. We never placed any calls to any teams in that regard,” Wallace said, via ESPN. “So that’s not happening.”

Wallace went on to note that he has no intention to trade fellow high-priced veteran Mike Conley and start a rebuild.

In theory that’s fine. But following Wednesday’s loss to San Antonio, the Grizzlies are 7-13 on the season and have dropped nine consecutive games.

Conley is having one of the worst seasons of his career. Meanwhile, free agent bust Chandler Parsons, long expected to be part of the big three, has not made any real impact this season.

At some point soon, Wallace and the Grizzlies must come to the conclusion that the status quo isn’t working. Whether that means trading Gasol remains to be seen.
