Yankees and Red Sox engage in one-sided war of words on Twitter

Yankees

October 17 is an important day in the New York Yankees rivalry with the Boston Red Sox. It marks the anniversary of an epic comeback and now, a rather vicious jab on Twitter.

In 2004, the Red Sox were trailing 3-0 in the ALCS to the Yankees. Trailing 4-3 in the ninth, Dave Roberts stole second base for Boston. That not only sparked the tying rally in that game, but also the comeback in the series. From that point on, the Red Sox would not lose another game in the postseason and claimed the franchise’s first World Series in 86 years. Naturally, Boston was happy to celebrate the anniversary on Twitter.

As it turned out the Red Sox should have chosen their words a little better. The Yankees, still alive in the 2017 ALCS, were quick to respond to their eliminated rivals.

Boston could only muster up a reply that frankly, left much to be desired.

The 2004 ALCS will always be a feather in the cap of the Red Sox. But this Twitter exchange is a decisive win for the Yankees.
