TBS refutes report it denied requests to move Nationals-Cubs game

Wrigley Field

Poor weather is expected in Chicago on Tuesday for Game 4 of the NLDS between the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals. That much is undeniable. Details about why the game was not moved up, however, are sketchy.

Atlanta Braves announcer Chip Caray, grandson of beloved former Cubs announcer Harry Caray, said on Twitter that TBS denied a request to move the game up.

John Ourand of Sports Business Journal then replied, quoting TBS, who refuted that claim.

Caray didn’t back down, though. In fact, he cited a report from WSCR’s Bruce Levine, saying that both teams were willing to move the time up.

Unless someone is flatly lying, it’s clear that some signals are getting crossed.

It’s also somewhat hard to believe that the Nationals would be willing to move the game up. Game 4 is a must-win for them and quite frankly, Tanner Roark vs. Jake Arrieta is a starting pitching matchup that favors the Cubs. Moving it back a day would give Washington the chance to start Stephen Strasburg against Arrieta (who would still be starting).

Another issue would be the fans in attendance. It would be awfully hard for them to attend if the start time were moved up by three hours with such little notice, especially for a midweek day game.

Given TBS’ partnership with MLB, this story is worth following.
