Wizards HC Scott Brooks has amazing take on LaVar Ball

Lakers president Magic Johnson doesn't seem too worried about LaVar Ball.

LaVar Ball is a pompous ass who builds himself up by talking about his sons all the darn time. Or is he? It’s all a matter of perspective. If you’re among those who feel LaVar Ball is just seeking attention for himself, one man’s perspective on this popular figure could potentially change your mind.

Washington Wizards head coach Scott Brooks was asked about how he feels Lonzo Ball is handling being a star in Los Angeles with a dad like LaVar. Here’s what he had to say.

“You know what, hey, people talk about his dad all the time,” Brooks said, per Candace Buckner of the Washington Post. Hey, I mean, my father left me at two. I would love to have my father around like [Lavar] is around and talk to him and pump me up with confidence. To me, that’s every son’s dream. And for some reason he gets criticized. No question, he’s a little ambition at times with [what] he says. But he’s around his son. I have no problem with that. And maybe he could temper it a little bit, but I would’ve loved to have my father do that.”

Based on how Ball’s sons reacted to him going loco as a guest star on WWE a few months back, we have to side with Brooks here. They ate it up. And while we’ve criticized Ball’s marketing strategy at times — those $495 ZO2s were just ridiculous when they came out — it’s clear the man is trying to build something large and sustainable. Not for himself so much as for his sons.

Brooks is also right to point out what a blessing it is for Ball’s sons that he’s so involved in their lives. He’s 100 percent invested in them to the point where he’s homeschooling LaMelo Ball so he doesn’t have to deal with as many distractions at high school. This level of involvement is something so many young men don’t get.
