Losing their season opener won’t really be a big deal for the defending champion Golden State Warriors moving forward. Losing All-Star forward Draymond Green to a long-term injury would most definitely be a big deal.
The reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year went down with what looked to be a serious knee injury in the third quarter of Tuesday’s season opener against the Houston Rockets. He did not return to the court as Houston used a fourth quarter flurry to hand the Warriors a rare defeat.
Now as Golden State prepares for its second game of the season Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans, the team got some tremendous news on that front.

Green was initially diagnosed with a knee strain, which in and of itself wouldn’t be a long-term injury. But the fact that he had to undergo an MRI surely raised eyebrows in Oakland.
It’s not yet known whether Green will play Friday against the Pelicans.
