Report: Josh Norman suffers damage to lung lining, could still play after bye

Josh Norman

Washington Redskins cornerback Josh Norman didn’t make it to halftime on Monday night after suffering a rib injury. It was severe enough that Jay Gruden was convinced his star defender would be out “at least a couple of weeks.”

After a couple of days, that diagnosis seems to have improved. As we passed along Tuesday, Norman is “week-to-week” with the injury. Now Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that, despite some “small damage to his lung lining,” Norman could play in Week 6 after Washington’s bye this weekend.

Norman was a big reason Washington was able to shut down the Oakland Raiders in Week 3. He was also a significant performer for Washington on Monday night. In the end, his team fell at the end of the fourth quarter without him, dropping to 2-2 on the season.

To this point in the season, Norman has 14 tackles, four passes defended and two forced fumbles.
