The San Francisco 49ers could be looking at moving on from another central figure in the form of Carlos Hyde, who is the subject of trade talks within the organization, per Benjamin Allbright of Cover32.

The 49ers had been making calls to trade NaVorro Bowman Thursday night but ultimately decided to release him out of respect for him. The four-time First-team All-Pro linebacker was on the sideline more than he was on the field this past weekend at Indianapolis. So also was Hyde, who took a back seat to undrafted rookie Matt Breida against the Colts.

There were reports earlier this year that the 49ers could be looking to move on from Hyde. However, he came on strong during training camp and preseason, and before Week 5’s invisibility act Hyde was the sixth-leading rusher in the NFL. Even more intriguing as far as this report goes is that, just as recently as one week ago it was reported the 49ers were looking to ink Hyde to a contract extension.

It’s unknown what prompted this shift, but the 49ers are clearly rebuilding right now. With a record of 0-5, the franchise must feel like attaining more assets to retool in the future is the best course of action. With that in mind, it’s going to be fascinating to see what the 49ers can possibly get for Hyde, who has rushed for 2,123 yards and 15 touchdowns in his career.
