Redskins’ Jay Gruden throws tremendous praise Carson Wentz’s way

In Week 7, the red-hot Philadelphia Eagles host their divisional rival Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.

It is now Washington’s turn to attempt to out-play the much-improved second-year quarterback Carson Wentz and his offense. Redskins head coach Jay Gruden spoke on the upcoming game and his thoughts on Wentz landing in Philly.

“He’s progressed at a rate as fast as anybody I’ve seen, really,” Gruden said, via Tim McManus of ESPN. “I think he’s already proven this short in his career that he’s one of the top quarterbacks in the league, quite frankly, and he’s going to be for a long time. I don’t know how he got to Philadelphia, and I’m very upset about that.”

Wentz is an Eagle because the Los Angeles Rams selected quarterback Jared Goff No. 1 overall in 2016. The Eagles picked Goff with the No. 2 draft pick they acquired from the Cleveland Browns.

Boy did Philly land a promising young quarterback. Wentz ranks fifth in passing yards and ties for second in passing touchdowns with 13. He has thrown only three interceptions and has an overall quarterback rating of 99.6.

He will be squaring off against quarterback Kirk Cousins who isn’t exactly a slouch himself. Cousins is completing 66.5 percent of his passes currently and sports an overall rating of 106.4.

In regards to Wentz, he should take Gruden’s glowing remarks as a compliment. By the sounds of his words Gruden seems a bit worried about going up against Wentz. The Eagles lead the NFC East having only lost just once in Week 2 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gruden’s Redskins sit second in the division with a 3-2 record This nitty-gritty divisional matchup makes for one of the more interesting Monday Night Football games on the 2017 schedule.
