‘Oh my God.’ NBA 2016 No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons wows in debut

Ben Simmons debuts Philadelphia 76ers

One year after getting drafted, Philadelphia 76ers point guard Ben Simmons finally made his way to an NBA court. He impressed opposing coach David Fizdale.

“Oh my God. I don’t want to see that for the next 15 years. That kid, they’re not talking about him enough,” the Memphis Grizzlies coach said in an interview, posted to Twitter by Marc Narducci‏ of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “The way he moves with the ball, his ability to see the floor, the way he can get places on the floor. Once he gets confidence in his shot where you really have to close out all the way to the three. Wow. He is a big-time talent.”

In 22 minutes of preseason action, Simmons recorded six points, adding seven rebounds and nine assists for the 76ers.

As Fizdale detailed, his shot needs some work. Simmons finished the day only 2-for-8 from the field. But with the rest of his game, that’s something that Philadelphia can wait on.

Simmons was drafted first overall by the 76ers in 2016, but missed all of the 2016-17 season with a foot injury.
