NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio not cheering for Yankees’ postseason run

Yankees

The New York Yankees are one game away from the World Series. But one New Yorker who’s certainly not cheering for them is Mayor Bill De Blasio — a Boston Red Sox fan.

“The truth is called for in editorial board meetings,” de Blasio said, per Erin Durkin of the New York Daily News. “I am a crazed, rabid baseball fan and Red Sox fan. It is constitutionally impossible to quote unquote root for the New York Yankees.”

The Mayor added that he will honor the Yankees if they win. He said, “They’ll get the key (to the city), they’ll get the parade, they’ll get the confetti. I will bow before them.”

While De Blasio is Manhattan born, he was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, right in the heart of Red Sox Nation. De Blasio’s Red Sox were eliminated by the Houston Astros in the ALDS.

Certainly, New York’s fans (at least Yankees’ fans) can’t be happy to hear this. But until De Blasio is seen in the owner’s box hugging John Henry, just know that it can get worse.
