Eagles head coach has mighty high praise for Carson Wentz

Carson Wentz leads one of the most explosive NFL offenses

Second-year quarterback Carson Wentz has his Philadelphia Eagles at 5-1 on the season. Wentz himself is turning in a brilliant sophomore season, having thrown 13 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions thus far.

It’s led to renewed optimism in Philadelphia that the Eagles might very well be able to earn a playoff appearance after a three-year hiatus. More than that, it gives fans the hope that they finally have that franchise quarterback to call their own.

Talking about said quarterback, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson sounds about as giddy as a chocoholic at a Hershey’s factory.

“I have never seen a guy quite like this, especially this early in his career. Do things that he’s doing,” Pederson said, via SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I’ve been around some tremendous quarterbacks. I’ve been around Dan Marino and Brett Favre.”

Wentz has made 22 careers NFL starts. It might be a bit too early to start comparing him to some of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play.

But his emergence to star quarterback this early in his career is absolutely stunning. Wentz had a pretty solid rookie season, putting up north of 3,700 passing yards with 16 touchdowns compared to 14 interceptions.

But he’s currently on pace for nearly 4,300 yards with 35 touchdowns and just eight picks. That would make for one of the best sophomore seasons for a quarterback in the history of the game.
