Dabo Swinney downplays ‘irrelevant’ initial playoff rankings

Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney isn’t getting all worked up over the soon-to-be-released College Football Playoff rankings.

Like Alabama’s Nick Saban, he appears to already be weary of what’s going to be a month of never-ending analysis based on what the CFP committee releases every Tuesday night. Instead, he’d much rather focus on what’s directly in front of him. Which, in Swinney’s case, is NC State.

The Tigers have one loss to their record. And, to be fair, it was a pretty bad one compared to some of the other one-loss teams. Falling to Syracuse before their bye wasn’t a good look. Then again, win out and Clemson is probably going to get in.

So, while sports fans and analysts pore over what the CFP committee got right and what it got wrong over the next few weeks, all Clemson needs to do is win. Period.
