Chris Johnson unwittingly foreshadows doom with Adrian Peterson tweet

Chris Johnson Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals sent shockwaves through the NFL on Tuesday, acquiring future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson from the New Orleans Saints.

It’s a move the team desperately needed to make after finishing up the first five weeks of the season with the worst rushing attack in the NFL. It also led to some pretty awesome reactions on Twitter.

Unfortunately for another Pro Bowl running back, this likely meant the end of the line for his NFL career. Immediately after acquiring Peterson, the Cardinals released veteran Chris Johnson.

The old saying that there’s a tweet for everything really comes into play here.

Ouch.

We’re pretty sure that Johnson, then a free agent, didn’t envision himself losing a roster spot to Adrian Peterson. Even then, irony is most definitely ironic.

Peterson now likely takes over as the starter for what is quickly becoming a senior citizen offense in the desert. Meanwhile, Johnson will likely look to extend his career by latching on with another team.

In this, the realization that Arizona boasted two former 2,000-yard running backs on the same roster lasted about as long as Peterson’s stint with the Saints.

How fun.
