Adrian Peterson to be relegated to part-time duties

Adrian Peterson makes his debut with the Cardinals

Despite boasting the worst rushing attack in the NFL, Bruce Arians and the Arizona Cardinals don’t envision the recently acquired Adrian Peterson to be a three-down back.

Instead, Arians noted on Thursday that the future Hall of Fame running back will not play on third downs once he makes his debut with the team on Sunday.

Seen as a bell cow during his 10-year career with the Minnesota Vikings, this will be a bit of a change up for Peterson. Though, we’re expecting him to see more action than what transpired during a brief four-game stint with New Orleans. That span of action saw AD run the ball 27 times prior to being shipped off to Arizona on Tuesday.

Never really a receiving threat throughout his career, it makes sense that the Cardinals would utilize Peterson as a two-down back. His career high in receptions is 43 back in 2009. On the other hand, Andre Ellington has more than proven himself to be a capable receiving back. That comes in handy on third down.
