Report: Chargers DB Jason Verrett opting for season-ending knee surgery

Jason Verrett

The Los Angeles Chargers will be playing the rest of the season without cornerback Jason Verrett, who is one of their top defensive backs. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Verrett is opting to have season-ending knee surgery and will be placed on IR.

Verrett aggravated his surgically repaired knee during practice before the team’s Week 2 game. He did not play last week. As noted by Schefter, this is a huge blow to the Chargers, who already started their season with two losses out of the gate.

Verrett has started 23 games for the Chargers since being selected No. 25 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. He’s tallied 72 tackles, five interceptions and one touchdown since then. Los Angeles doesn’t have much depth at cornerback, so this will certainly hurt them on the defensive side of the ball.
