Odell Beckham Jr. confirms he met with John Mara

Odell Beckham Jr.

New York Giants owner John Mara made it clear that he wasn’t happy with Odell Beckham Jr.’s end zone celebration on Sunday. On Wednesday, Beckham confirmed that the two met.

Following his first touchdown in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Beckham crawled on the ground and lifted his leg to mimic a dog urinating. The celebration drew a 15-yard penalty. Beckham later confirmed that it was a response to what President Donald Trump said days earlier.

The main problem here is that Beckham’s immaturity has been persistent in his career. If he otherwise had no issues and did this in response to the comments, it would be hard to be too critical without dramatically overreacting. But whether it’s his past issues with Josh Norman, being spotted on a boat days before a playoff game, dancing days before missing a game with an ankle injury, or this, Beckham has too often put himself into situations where it’s easy to call him immature.

The good news is that Beckham is still very young and of course, immensely talented. We can only hope for Beckham’s sake that the conversation with Mara really got through to him.
