Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns is the latest to weigh in on the corruption scandal that has rocked the college basketball world.
The former Kentucky star made it clear that while he’s surprised by how many people have been implicated, the scandal itself is not surprising.
“It’s something that people kind of felt, but we didn’t know how big it truly was,” Towns said, via Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. “I would be sitting here lying to you if I said it was surprising and shocking. I don’t think it’s surprising or shocking. The number of people involved is shocking. That’s the biggest thing. I’m very, very fortunate to have had a very good time in college and be with a great school and doing the right thing.”
These comments are similar to those made by longtime analyst Dick Vitale, who made it clear that he was saddened, but not especially surprised.
If Towns is surprised at the number of people involved, he should really brace himself. The more people that are arrested and charged, the more likely it will be that they’ll flip and even more big names will be implicated.
