Deshaun Watson remains starting QB for Texans vs. Patriots

Deshaun Watson

There will be no change at the quarterback position for the Houston Texans as they head to Gillette Stadium for a date with the New England Patriots in Week 3. Rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson will be behind center, based on the team’s official depth chart, for the upcoming road game.

After making the switch at halftime, benching Tom Savage in favor of the rookie, and then keeping Watson in the lineup last week, there’s no going back for Bill O’Brien now. He absolutely has to stick with Watson, who was the difference in the team’s win on the road on Thursday night in Week 2.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Watson handles himself against the Patriots — a team that traditionally feasts on rookie quarterbacks. No doubt, he’ll have plenty of moments that induce some grimaces on Sunday. But if we’ve learned anything from the young man it’s that he’ll also give fans reason to cheer.

If the Texans have any hope of taking down Tom Brady and the Pats, then J.J. Watt and Co. will have to do their part. And Watson will have to figure out a way to minimize his mistakes.
