Browns place WR Corey Coleman on injured reserve

In an expected move, the Cleveland Browns have placed second-year wide receiver Corey Coleman on injured reserve after he suffered a broken hand in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The team made the announcement on Tuesday, making sure to note that it comes with an eligible to return designation.

Coleman will be able to return for live-game action in eight weeks. Until then, the Browns will remain extremely short handed at the wide receiver position. Earlier in the day, Cleveland activated wide receiver Jordan Leslie to its active roster from the practice squad.

It’s most definitely not good news for rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer, who built a strong relationship with Coleman in Week 1 before the two struggled against an elite Ravens defense this past Sunday.

A first-round pick from Baylor back in 2016, Coleman recorded 33 receptions for 413 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie. He also missed six games after suffering a broken hand during the season.

With Coleman out, the hope here has to be that Rashard Higgins will continue to play a larger-than-expected role in Cleveland’s passing game. The second-year receiver caught seven passes for 95 yards on 11 targets in Cleveland’s Week 2 loss to Baltimore.
