Bill Murray could play Joe Maddon in Cubs World Series movie

Australian director Shane Abbess has a new film in the works, and it’s unlike anything he’s done before. Based on a book written by former Chicago Cubs catcher David Ross, Abbess’ film will depict the events surrounding the team’s 2016 championship, its first since 1908.

According to Deadline, award-winning actor Bill Murray, who is a die-hard Cubs fan, is in talks to play manager Joe Maddon in the film.

“Die-hard Cubbie fan Bill Murray has been in talks to join the team as manager Joe Maddon but it’s not clear yet whether that will happen,” the report noted.

Not incredibly active recently, Murray is best known for his role in the Caddyshack film franchise. He’s also received praise for leading roles in both Lost in Translation and Groundhog Day.

Murray, 57, turned down an exclusive invite to be honored at the nation’s capital so he could watch his Cubs clinch the NL title. This is how big of Cubs fan he is.

The film itself will be titled Teammate and is going to be produced by Ted Field of Radar Pictures.
