If all goes according to plan, Detroit Tigers infielder Andrew Romine will become the fifth MLB player to play all nine positions in a game.
Manager Brad Ausmus announced on Wednesday that he plans on having Romine playing all nine positions in the team’s regular season finale against the Minnesota Twins.
Barring something strange, Ausmus said, Andrew Romine will play all nine positions Sunday at Minnesota.

He would join Bert Campaneris, Cesar Tovar, Scott Sheldon, and Shane Halter as only the fifth player to do that.
The fact that the game is in Minnesota creates a few potential issues.
One, logically speaking, the home fans in Detroit would be the ones far more likely to care. In a way, it would have made more sense to do this a week ago, when the Tigers hosted the Oakland Athletics in a three-game series between two non-contending teams.
Two, the Tigers are not guaranteed nine trips to the field in Minnesota. Obviously, if the Twins are leading after the top of the ninth inning, they will not come to bat. So, Romine will likely have to work a mid-inning position switch in at some point.
But despite that, he will be able to say he’s one of only five MLB players to have done something. There are worse ways to make your mark on the game.
