Andrew Luck won’t return to practice this week

Andrew Luck

Just when it looked like Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck would return to the field soon, it seems that he has suffered yet another hiccup in his recovery from off-season shoulder surgery.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano confirmed on Wednesday that Luck will not return to practice this week. Instead, indicating that the timeline for a return is next week.

“He’s still a week away as far as his throwing progression and things like that,” Pagano said.

Reports had surfaced over the weekend that the Colts were hoping to have Luck back in the mix by Week 6. That was followed by suggestions that he could return to practice this week.

Now that this is no longer the case, one has to wonder when Luck will actually start his 2017 season. After having missed the entire off-season program, he will have to get in substantial practice time before taking to the field for live-game action. This puts his availability for the first half of the season squarely in question.

With Luck sidelined, the recently acquired Jacoby Brissett scored three touchdowns in Indianapolis’ 31-28 win over the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday. If nothing else, he provides some excitement under center until Luck inevitably returns.
