49ers place DL Tank Carradine on injured reserve

The San Francisco 49ers’ defense was dealt another major blow on Monday with news that up-and-coming defensive lineman Tank Carradine has been placed on injured reserve.

Carradine, a former second-round pick from Florida State, suffered a high-ankle sprain in last week’s 41-39 loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

While the former Seminole had not performed up to expectations in his first three NFL seasons, he was looking the part of a legitimate Pro Bowl caliber performer early on in the 2017 campaign. In addition to recording one sack, he was also among the best run-stuffing defensive linemen in the league prior to suffering said injury.

The good news here is that Carradine will likely be brought back from injured reserve after eight weeks. Even then, it’s a major blow for a San Francisco defense that was picked apart by Jared Goff and Co. in Week 3.
