Kings part owner Shaquille O’Neal has no idea Otto Porter wasn’t signed

Sacramento Kings part owner and TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t seem to be keeping up with the league’s offseason. Or his own team’s, for that matter.

In an appearance on CSN Mid-Atlantic’s Wizards tip-off podcast, O’Neal said that the loss of small forward Otto Porter would be a problem for Washington.

“They lost an important piece, Otto Porter. He’s now playing for my team in Sacramento,” O’Neal said.

Thing is, Porter still plays for the Wizards. O’Neal’s Kings went after him in free agency, offering a max contract to the restricted free agent, but Porter signed an offer sheet with the Brooklyn Nets instead. Washington matched the four-year, $106 million offer, so Porter is back in D.C. this season.

O’Neal, a minority owner, isn’t making decisions for the Kings. However, as a network analyst, he should at least know where one of the league’s marquee free agents this summer landed. Apparently, Inside the NBA’s “Who He Play For?” segment is set to be pretty interesting this season.
