Royals pitcher Danny Duffy cited for DUI

Kansas City Royals pitcher Danny Duffy

It’s been a rough few days for Kansas City Royals pitcher Danny Duffy. He was placed on the 10-day DL Saturday after suffering an injury to his elbow. Then on Sunday night he was cited for driving under the influence.

According to police, via the Kansas City Star, Duffy was cited around 8 p.m. Sunday night in Overland Park, an upscale suburb of Kansas City. The police department could not release further details about the incident until after the police report is completed.

The Royals have been made aware of the incident and issued a statement following Duffy’s citation for DUI.

“We are obviously disappointed in the news we have received regarding Danny Duffy’s DUI arrest on Sunday night. Danny was not part of the team traveling back from Cleveland on Sunday because he had returned to Kansas City a day earlier to undergo an MRI examination.

“We are still in the early stages of gathering the details, but I do know that Danny has always been accountable as a member of this organization and we expect the same accountability from him as this process moves forward.

“We obviously do not condone anyone driving while under the influence, but this is now a legal matter and we will allow the process to unfold and cannot comment any further.”

Duffy currently sports a record of 8-8 as a starter this year for the Royals. He has an ERA of 3.78, a WHIP of 1.25, has struck out 116 batters and issued just 36 walks in in 131 innings of work.
