Report: Celtics interested in signing Andrew Bogut

Andrew Bogut

It wasn’t too long ago that Andrew Bogut was a defensive stalwart for an NBA champion Golden State Warriors team. The former No. 1 overall pick starred in Golden State for four seasons — helping the previously dormant organization reach the pinnacle.

After being shipped off to Dallas last summer in order to make room for Kevin Durant, Bogut ultimately landed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Unfortunately, in just his first game with the team, the injury-prone center suffered a broken leg.

Now on the mend, Bogut is apparently in contact with the Boston Celtics.

“A league source said Boston will not rush to fill the spot, and might even keep it open to maintain flexibility. The Celtics this week have been in contact with representatives of several free agents. According to another league source, that group includes center Andrew Bogut,” The Boston Globe‘s Adam Himmelsbach reported Friday.

This comes on the heels of Boston adding All-Star guard Kyrie Irving in a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier in the week.

For his part, Bogut did show interest in the Celtics prior to signing with Cleveland last season.

The 32-year-old big man averaged 3.0 points and a solid 8.4 rebounds for Dallas last season. He would be a key player off the bench for a Celtics team looking to advance to the NBA Finals in 2017-18.
