Redskins activate TE Jordan Reed off PUP list

Jordan Reed released

Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed has been activated off the PUP list after spending all of training camp sidelined with a toe injury.

The team announced the roster move on its website Sunday. Reed has been issued custom orthopedics that are designed to help protect him from further injury to his toe. He said they are helping and expects to be practicing with the team ahead of its Week 3 preseason game.

“It’s been working good,” Reed said. “It’s helped my toe out a lot and when I tried them out it felt really good.”

The Redskins haven’t exactly looked explosive offensively the first two preseason games when the first-team offense has been on the field. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has completed 15-of-25 passes for just 149 yards, which works out to an average of just six yards per attempts — far below his career average of 7.8.

After watching both Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson leave via free agency, Reed’s presence in the starting lineup is absolutely critical. Jamison Crowder is the top remaining receiver from last year’s team, with Reed being a close second, and he missed four games due to injury.

Thankfully, Reed doesn’t think his toe will be an issue once the regular season arrives, “because it’s starting to heal up really good right now.”

If he is healthy, then Reed will be heavily relied-upon in the passing game.
