Broncos RB Jamaal Charles to remain sidelined with knee injury

Could the Denver Broncos release Jamaal Charles before training camp is over?

Time is running out for former All Pro running back Jamaal Charles to earn a spot on the Denver Broncos’ 53-man roster. Having played in just eight games over the past two seasons, Charles is still recovering from a torn ACL.

And after missing the team’s preseason opener against the Chicago Bears last week, Charles will remain sidelined this week against the San Francisco 49ers.

The silver lining here is that Charles is expected to make his preseason debut next week against the Green Bay Packers. That will give him two games to prove he’s worthy of a roster spot in Denver.

Charles, a four-time Pro Bowl performer with the Kansas City Chiefs, was never a lock to make the Broncos’ roster after signing a one-year deal with them during the offseason. It will be interesting to see how he’s utilized when he’s actually on the field later in the preseason.

Denver has veteran C.J. Anderson as well as youngsters Devontae Booker and De’Angelo Henderson competing with Charles for touches in its backfield.
